Volunteer Opportunities

Volunteer

As soon as people get to know Freedom House and understand our mission, their first response is, “How Can I Help?” We live in a very generous community and the support of that community is what makes our ministry possible. There are multitudes of ways you can help Freedom House – with your time, your talents or your treasure. Words cannot express how much we appreciate our community’s generosity, in particular the many volunteers who help us accomplish the work of our ministry on a day-to-day basis.

Freedom House is blessed with an amazing group of people who generously donate their time, talents and passions to serve our families. Volunteering is really the nuts and bolts of our programs and facility. Volunteers are Receptionists, Mentors, Housekeepers, Painters, Chefs and so, so much more. Individuals, youth groups, businesses, community service projects – all are involved and all are welcome. There is a need and we’d love to work together!  Whether you’re an individual looking to connect with the community or a group of folks looking to serve together, there’s always work to be done at Freedom House. Listed below are the more typical needs, but if you don’t see what you want to do, let us know. Creativity is welcome!

*Since Freedom House serves children, volunteer applications and background checks are required of all volunteers. Listed below are our current openings for individual volunteers based on your specific availability:

Individual Volunteer Opportunities

Receptionist:  As a receptionist at Freedom House, you will be the first face people see and the first voice they hear when they contact our ministry! We are in need of friendly multi-taskers to help manage the phones, answer the door, and sometimes assist the House Supervisor with other household tasks. There are many times slots available to work with your schedule!

Photographer:  Freedom House is blessed with a number of programs and events put on by organizations and volunteers for our families. We would like to capture these events on film! We are looking to recruit a couple of experienced photographers to join our events when available. The events will be announced ahead of time to work with your schedule. The photographers need to be willing to edit the photos to their discretion, as well as release the rights for use of the photos for our web page, social media, and print.

Office Assistant:  There is a need for helping hands to keep up with daily work. We are looking for one or two individuals to come in once a week (based on their schedule) to take care of office tasks when needed. Examples of work include phone calls, copies, filing, and typing projects. Multi-tasking is a must!

Volunteer ChildCare Director:  Childcare is offered to our families on Tuesday and Thursday evenings, so residents may attend their required parenting and financial planning courses. We are in need of a director to plan and implement lesson plans for these classes. This role is flexible and can be done either at Freedom House or from home. The lesson plans are for ages 2-12. The class is one hour long. The plans will need to be brought to Freedom House, and the director is responsible for gathering the required materials for the plans from our supply closet and placing them in the volunteer closet each week.

ChildCare Volunteer: On Tuesday or Thursday evenings child care is provided to allow parents to attend their required classes. Ages range from infant to 12 years. Assist in providing a safe, nurturing atmosphere for the children and implementing lesson plans when provided by Volunteer Childcare Director or ChildCare Intern.

Childcare: On Tuesday or Thursday evenings child care is provided to allow parents to attend their required classes. Ages range from infant to 12 years. You will be joined with other volunteers in implementing simple lesson plans with the children in our facility.

Service Day: Your group will follow prepared task lists such as general cleaning, donation sorting and yard work.

Activity, Party or Movie: Your group can provide games, crafts and activities for our families (similar to a Vacation Bible School or Carnival), or host a movie night with snacks!

Meal Donations: Your group can either prepare a meal at Freedom House or bring a meal to Freedom House prepared off site. Meals are served buffet style from 4:30pm-6pm and you should plan on serving 35 to 40 people. The Group stays to clean dishes and kitchen after the meal is served.

Door to Door for Freedom House: Have a blast hosting a friendly competition between folks in your group. Start with basic canned goods such as green beans, fruit, corn, etc. Divide your group into teams and knock on doors in neighborhoods.  Explain that you’re in a competition for gathering donations for Freedom House. The team who’s canned donations weighs the most wins! Your group can plan a time to drop off the goods at Freedom House and we can give the group a tour and answer any questions that you may have.
