Homelessness to Hope

Families represent 40% of the homeless population, and it’s the fastest growing segment. The face of homelessness in Brown County is made up of hardworking, committed people longing to overcome their financial, and often family, crises but unable to do so on their own.

The mission of Freedom House is to equip families with the skills and resources needed to become self-sufficient and maintain self-sufficiency.  Freedom House serves a diverse population of Brown County's homeless families with children through its emergency shelter on the east side of Green Bay and its transitional living program, called The Bridge, on the west side of Green Bay.  In addition to shelter, food, clothing and on-site medical assistance, we walk alongside families through case management, job readiness, budgeting and parenting classes, family focused activities and additional support services, including free onsite childcare.  Families in our transitional living program receive case management support while pursuing specific family goals and overcoming barriers which prevent them from obtaining permanent housing.

We welcome every resident with a letter that states, in part, “We believe that every person who comes through our door is here for a reason and a purpose. The goal of this ministry is to help you break free from feeling like you are just surviving and help you to not only survive and thrive within society, but to come alive.”

Thanks to the generous support of people like you, for over 20  years Freedom House has been able to serve nearly 1,300 families and over 2,500 children in the Northeastern Wisconsin area – and 92% of them have never returned to homelessness! Now that’s a success rate worth touting.

The truth is, we can only succeed because of a capable staff, a dedicated board of directors, invaluable volunteers, a committed community of givers, an innovative program approach and a great big God – they are the true heroes behind Freedom House!

Come join us, won’t you, in making a difference in our community!
