Our History

Freedom House was started in 1992 by a handful of Green Bay churches who were very concerned about the issue of homelessness here in our community. Its first building housed 4 families on N. Irwin Avenue. In 2004, Freedom House Ministries moved to its current 17-room facility on St. Anthony Drive where it tripled its capacity to serve all types of homeless families with children in Brown County.

Hopelessness to Hope: Freedom House guides families every step of the way – from securing basic needs to preparing to launch them out on their own – skilled, hopeful and ready to meet life’s challenges. In a nutshell, we offer solutions. Since we opened in 1992:

  • Nearly 1300 families have been served.
  • Over 2500 children have seen hope restored.
  • Fewer than 8% have returned to homelessness – that’s a whopping 92 percent success rate – nearly 4,000 vibrant, participating members of our local community helping to make us a better place than we were before!
